The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
