Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no indication as to where it came from; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
